The owners of a 1959 ranch bungalow desperately needed a complete renovation of their kitchen, including opening it up to the dining room. Their wish list included: insulating the walls, workspace for two cooks; a breakfast and entertainment bar; desk area; and as much storage as possible. In terms of style they wanted a clean, open, minimalist look in keeping with the architecture. Challenges included: removal of a load-bearing wall; creating seamless flooring; emphasizing the horizontal aesthetic of the space; and taking responsibility for every aspect of the design, since a kitchen company was not hired.
