NEED TO FIND THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE ???
March 18, 2010
We Just purchased our 1st home and the question we always get is where is the front door???? My husband and I both disagree. From the road looking in, I thought that was the front so I got a contractor to put in a huge window and thought of putting in a carport to make the house look larger. Now thinking about it, the side of the house looks like the front. Now I want a deck for the summer. Where should we built it? Do we need a wrap-around porch? Should we paint the shutters black? Any suggestions would help. Thank you.

I would definitely put in the wraparound porch and paint the shutters and doors black. I would also consider placing 2 large black urns on either side of your main door and maybe something on a smaller scale on your secondary door. Your wraparound porch will be another extension on your home. It will be like another room. Consider the depth carefully so that you will have room for maybe a bench seat or a hanging swing to add to the charm. The steps to enter that wraparound porch, would best be placed leading up to the main door. I would also enhance the garden on the side that you wish to be your main entrance side. Consider a grouping of low sitting shrubs to enhance a path leading to your porch steps. There will be no doubt as to which is the front door after that. Best of luck!
