Dee from New York asks...

I just had white carrera marble installed as my bathroom countertop. It’s supposedly sealed but I’m nervous about it getting stained. I’d like to use a liquid soap dispenser for hygiene reasons but am nervous about soap dripping on the counter & ruining it. Do you have any dispensers, trays or other suggestions for how to protect the counter?

Part of the beauty of marble is that it patinas over time, so don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t stay perfectly shiny forever. That said, a little bit of hand soap shouldn’t harm it. Buy a soap dispenser with a wood, glass or ceramic base as metal ones can rust and leave a ring on the counter, or buy a tray and keep all your accessories on the tray.

Make sure you seal the surface once a year, and more importantly, don’t use commercial chemical cleaners on it. Your marble supplier or tile store should be able to provide you with special marble cleaner that won’t harm the stone.
